FAET FAQs

NOTICE: TTB has temporarily removed its “Frequently Asked Questions” for Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax (FAET). These FAQs are under review to ensure that they are current and address issues relevant to FAET taxpayers. The FAET FAQs will be re-posted once the review and any necessary updates are complete. In the meantime, guidance on FAET can be found in TTB’s online “FAET Reference Guide,” which provides information on similar topics in an outline format. The reference guide is available here: https://www.ttb.gov/firearms/reference-guide. Any additional questions can be submitted to TTB’s National Revenue Center through the contact form available here: https://www.ttb.gov/contact-nrc.
